This run would of have been fantastic just because of where I was and Overall setting but two events made it a very unique experience:

First:
When I was running back toward the hotel I came around a corner and was very surprised and shocked to see a whole column (6-8 wide and very long) of fully outfitted military soldiers running toward me.  After a second I realized they were just on a training run and there was nothing wrong.  I ran to one side to go past them, and as I approached the front of the column I shouted "Namaste" as a greeting.  The whole column raised their rifles over their heads and returned my greeting of "Namaste" in a very LOUD returned greeting.

Second:
After my run I was walking to cool down and noticed a small shrine in the lot next door to the hotel.
It was a small building maybe 8 x 8 feet with a small door and tiled steps leading into the tiled interior where there was a raised platform with a deity and lots of colorful offerings.  I did not approach very close as a white haired man that appeared to be very advanced in age was knelling at the alter.  As he raised and backed out of the shrine, he noticed me and motioned me over to the steps.  With no common language he "asked" me if I wanted to come in and worship in his temple and I "said" yes.  He then lead me through the process, removing my shoes, washing my feet in a small tray of water on the steps, kneeling and entering the temple, putting the palms of my hands together, and lowering my head to the floor 3 times,  clapping my hands 3 times, and backing out of the shrine (already knew about not turning and having the soles of my feet face the deity).  I put my shoes back on and bowed very deeply at the door to the shrine.  Then bowed very deeply at the gentleman to show my thanks, which he seemed to really appreciate.

Experiences like this make traveling and running the world all worth while.

Africa Running

Runs in Africa in Durban South Africa on the boardwalk and on the beach - very nice,  but hot and humid so the run was short.
